Jiaoliuhe Fm
Type Locality and Naming
The type section is located at near the west of Jiaoliu River in Baicheng County, Jilin. It was named by the Jilin Province Coalfield 102 Team in 1968 and quoted publicly in 1978 by the Jilin Province Compilation Group of Regional Stratigraphic Table. The reference section is located in the XM2 hole section of Xinli Township, Tao'an County, Jilin Province. The Jiaoliuhe Formation was named as a set of basic-intermediate basic volcanic rocks under the coal series, which is dated to Early Jurassic. In 1978, the Regional Stratigraphic Table Compilation Group of Jilin Province defined this set of strata as Middle Jurassic. The Jilin Province Research Group of Multi-Stratigraphic Division and Correlation concluded that there was a set of strata dominated by neutral volcanic rocks under the coal measures, which were unconformable over the Paleozoic metamorphic siliceous rocks and limestone, and the age was determined to be the Late Triassic.

Lithology and Thickness
It is a set of intermediate-basic volcanic rock series. The lower part is andesite, and the upper part is interbedded with basalt, andesite, tuff and tuffaceous sandstone. The thickness is 738 m.
Relationships and Distribution
Lower contact
It is unconformable in contact to the underlying Upper Permian.
Upper contact
It is unconformable in contact to the gray conglomerate of the overlying Hongqi Fm of the Lower Jurassic.
Regional extent
The group is mainly distributed in the suburbs of Baicheng County in Jilin Province, Heishui Township, Wafang Township and Xinli Township in Tao'an County of NW Jilin.
